Ethereum Use Cases

Ethereum’s smart contracts have facilitated the platform’s widespread adoption across a number of industries, including non-fungible tokens (NFT) and decentralized finance (DeFi).

Stablecoins like Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC), DeFi cryptocurrencies like Uniswap (UNI) and Chainlink (LINK), and gaming cryptocurrencies like ApeCoin (APE), Decentraland (MANA), The Sandbox (SAND), and Axie Infinity (AXS) were among the top 20 Ethereum-based tokens as of July 28, 2022.

On the Ethereum blockchain, DeFi applications once dominated, but recently NFT transactions have been on the rise. For example, data from Glassnode as of July 25, 2022, show that gas consumption by NFT projects increased 6.2% since November 2021, whereas gas consumption by DeFi applications decreased from 27.5% to 15.1%.

Ethereum Coin Supply

Around 120.24 million Ether tokens are in use as of August 24, 2022. Ethereum has a limitless supply, in contrast to Bitcoin, which has a restriction of 21 million units.

Largest Crypto holders

The number of individuals investing in Ethereum is rising as eth price, and the demand for it in the cryptocurrency market keeps rising. Notably, you’ll find groups or businesses like Kraken among the top Ethereum investors you can find online right now.

Number of Ethereum addresses in 2022

The number of Ethereum addresses with a confirmed balance reached a new high in August 2022, according to Glassnode Alerts, which made the announcement on Twitter. At the time of writing, the Ethereum market had more than 202.36 million investors and active addresses. The tracking website indicates that the number of Ethereum owners has been rising over time.

As of August 25, 2022 the number of addresses holding 100+ coins reached a monthly high of 45,615, according to glassnode alerts.

The number of the active crypto wallet

The website also discovered that in 2022, the total number of active Ethereum wallets reached a record high. The research indicates that around 3.9 million active wallets hold at least 0.1 ETH, while little information is available on the average wallet size. This is equivalent to around $312 in fiat money. Since 2021, there have been 10% more Ethereum investors.

Additionally, since 2020, Ethereum’s popularity has increased by about 50%. Unfortunately, during this period, the cost of Ethereum has also increased by almost 1000%.

How much does Vitalik own?

In October 2018, Vitalik Buterin, the inventor and pioneer of the revolutionary Ethereum network, who is Russian-Canadian, revealed the location of his Ethereum wallet on Twitter.

Most people believe that Vitalik Buterin, the inventor of Ethereum, is one of the largest cryptocurrency holders. According to Vitalik’s tweet on his wallet in 2018, he holds about 51.7 ETH, worth approximately $81,437.84 at the current eth price.

Notably, although Buterin’s wallet might appear modest, it’s important to note that most of its contents have been transferred to new addresses. Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Ethereum are stored in other wallets, in addition to about 142 ETH in Vitalin’s VB 3 wallet.

Buterin moved the majority of the contents of his wallet to a new address, named Vb 3, where his supply is presently kept after two transfers totaling 325,000 ETH in May 2021.

The eth price valued at $1548.17, which works out to approximately $504M, is a significant drop during the more prosperous market of 2021, in which the holding was worth approximately $1B.

Eth Price and the success of Ethereum 2.0

Although Ethereum is the preferred blockchain for DeFi and NFT projects, its high gas costs and sluggishness have given rise to a number of rivals, including Solana and Cardano. Ethereum is transitioning from the proof-of-work (POW) paradigm to the proof-of-stake (POS) model, which is quicker and more energy efficient. Ethereum mining would be eliminated as a result of the change.

In the event that the Ethereum 2.0 project is a success, the blockchain would have a strong defense against rivals. Therefore, existing Ethereum-based projects would want to stay there, and new projects would want to use the platform. As a result, the demand for and value of the Ether token would rise as blockchain activity grew. Because of this, some analysts believe Ether’s current value of less than $2,000 might increase to more than $10,000 by 2025.

Ethereum Investors

There is currently little data available to estimate the typical Ethereum holdings of the ordinary person. Estimates indicate a rise in investors, but there is no way to determine who actually owns how much ETH.

What is certain is that, at a time when more individuals are learning about cryptocurrencies and altcoins, Ethereum investments continue to draw attention.

The Big Question: Who Owns the Most Ethereum?

Crypto whales are investors who own significant quantities of a certain cryptocurrency. Ethereum whales abound, ranging from individual investors to institutions. The project’s co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who possesses many Ethereum wallets, including one with more than 325,000 Ether, is one of the biggest private Ethereum holders. Buterin donated some of his considerably bigger Ether holdings to lower them.

Eighty percent of the wealthiest owners on the Ethereum rich list aren’t specific individuals, according to the top accounts by ETH balance. The Eth2 Deposit contact, with 4,798,197 Ether, is by far the largest Ethereum holder, followed by Wrapped Ether.

Binance, which presently has around 678,000 Ether in the Binance 8 wallet and 1.9 million in the Binance 7 wallet, is another significant investor in Ethereum. The Gemini contract, Kraken, and Bitfinex are among the other main exchanges.
